What fittings are on the Astra pump?
The Astra Power Steering Pump (Opel TRW Pump) comes with two main connections:
Low Pressure Return: 3/8″ hose barb, push-on style.
High Pressure Outlet: M16 x 1.5 mm threaded port.
To simplify the high-pressure connection, Lowe Fab recommends using a Speedflow M16x1.5 to -6AN adaptor, which allows you to run braided -6AN hose for a professional finish.
What hoses do I need for the Astra pump?
Low Pressure Line: Standard hydraulic 3/8 rubber push-loc hose with clamps.
High Pressure Line: PTFE lines -6AN braided line for strength and reliability under pressure.
Using AN fittings not only improves durability but also makes routing neater and easier in tight engine bays.
How do you wire the Astra power steering pump?
Wiring is straightforward, but proper cable sizing and fusing is critical due to the high current draw of the pump.
Brown (Large): Ground / Earth
Red: Battery / +12V (Fused connection direct from battery)
Brown (Small): ECU communication wire (not required for retrofits)
Black: Ignition switched power
Blue / White: Secondary ignition feed (optional on retrofits; originally used as a delayed source to improve pump start-up behaviour)
Important Notes on Wiring:
Always use correct cable sizing to handle the pump’s current draw.
Ensure solid earthing points and quality fuses.
Poor wiring will lead to weak performance or pump failure.
