Commodore Steering Intermediate Shaft – The Lowe Fabrications Steering Intermediate Shaft is designed to connect the factory steering column in early Holden Commodore VB, VC, VH, VK and VL models when converting to a VN–VR power steering rack and later V6/V8 K-frame.
A common upgrade for LS conversions and modified early Commodores, the later K-frame and steering rack combination can provide additional clearance around the engine and extractors. This purpose-built intermediate shaft provides the critical connection between the early steering column and later-model steering rack.
Commodore Steering Intermediate Shaft Suit VL and VN Power Steering Rack & K-Frame Conversions
Converting an early Commodore to a later-model K-frame and power steering rack is a popular upgrade, particularly when undertaking an LS engine conversion. However, the early and later steering systems use different connections, meaning the original intermediate steering shaft cannot simply be reused.
This custom steering intermediate shaft is designed specifically to solve that problem.
It allows the steering column in VB, VC, VH, VK and VL Commodores to be connected to a VL or VN Power steering rack.

One of the major reasons for carrying out the VL and VN steering rack conversion is improved packaging.
Early Commodore engine bays can become extremely tight once larger engines, exhaust systems and performance components are introduced. The later K-frame and power steering rack arrangement is commonly used during LS conversions, where the revised steering layout can provide valuable additional room for headers/extractors and associated components.
While VL and VN steering racks are relatively readily available, joining the later rack to the early Commodore steering column requires the correct intermediate shaft.
